[Talk-ca] Fwd: Fwd: Revisiting exits with “names” in Ontario and Quebec

I’m very sorry for the word. I’m still new here, and I feel I’m helpless.
My original intention for starting this thread is fixing how exits are
tagged in Ontario and Quebec, much like what was done five years ago by the
Mapbox team. Actually, your fellow Ontario and Quebec mappers have been
cleaning things up until Mapbox came in, but, those positive changes have
been undone one year after.
As for the wiki, its primary role is documentation. It’s an authoritative
source for how to tag things in OSM, but I have read many times in places
like the tagging mailing list the wiki is not the final arbiter on how
things are done in OSM. In several pages, there are also disclaimers.
Unfortunately,
a lot of us take the wiki for granted as their primary authority for
mapping wisdom.
All those said, I stand by the proposal to remove those “names” for the
reasons of tagging of the renderer, redundancy, clutter and the references
to “[road/destination] exit” being a description than a name.
