In case anyone is wondering how to use this source, I did something like
this:
1. In JOSM go to Imagery -> Imagery Source
2. Press the "+WMS" button and paste in the WMS link:
https://geo.statcan.gc.ca/geo_wa/services/2021/Road_Network_File/MapServer/WMSServer?request=GetCapabilities&service=WMS
3. Once that's added, find the GeoBase Roads layer in the list, hit the
activate button, and save (JOSM should prompt you to restart)
4. Go to anywhere in Canada and download data.
5. Go into the Imagery menu and selectr the GeoBase Roads - English(or
French)
When I did this in downtown Calgary, they are indeed spelled out
"Northeast", "Southeast", etc.
