[OSM-fi] Finnish National Registry of Social and Health

Hi,

We would like to have a unified set, and include the SOTE oid as part of the data. So to know the data came from the registry in the 1st place. Do you have a suggestion how to merge these with existing data?
Definitely good idea to include the source tag.
There are a lot of nodes just for Tampere, and a bit over 72000 nodes in total. This set is really the whole registry of social and health care facilities in Finland..
What would you do in case we need to revert changes? That is, if you can directly point me to the best approach here, I would use that.

At least these should be improved:
- You should explain how you deal with the already existing POIs
- It would be good idea to have the "source=THL SOTE registry” tag for each imported node.
- There are over 3000 nodes for Tampere area, I do not think this is small import that is easy to revert by you if needed
- You should explain what you do in case to need to revert the changes
- I think it would be good idea to have the THL permission on the form https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3PN5zfbzThqeTdWR1l3SzJVcTg/view (page 2) as explained here: https://blog.openstreetmap.org/2017/03/17/use-of-cc-by-data/. It could be stored in the github, for example, where it is publicly available

Any concerns or input to the upload at this point? What is still needed before I could upload the data?

   Hi,

   Got green light  from THL to mention them only on http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Contributors. I would also need to add a custom tag for the oid field on THL registry, so some changes to the imported model needed. Also would be importing the address, phone number if available on the THL registry.

   More input is more than welcome.

       Hi Tero,

       No, it is not ok to go ahead. You seem to have permission from THL only if they are mentioned in the http://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright page but to be able to have THL mentioned on that page would require you to agree with the OSM Foundation. Almost all data providers are mentioned on the page http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Contributors. You could try to get permission from THL if they are mentioned on that page. There may be more reasons not to go forward. I suggest to try get more input from the OSM community before doing the import.

Hi,

I created the page as suggested here:https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/ODA/Finnish_SOTE_registry_import<http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/ODA/Finnish_SOTE_registry_import>. Will try a smaller upload first for one city, for example Tampere.
There are definitely existing POIs for many of the service providers, uploaded by individual users or the organizations themselves.
For completeness having an “official” set of POIs coming from the SOTE registry would have some benefit perhaps, on the other hand this would probably result in a slow update cycle.

How would you see this working best? We could probably upload now only the missing POIs, and outside this process instruct people on how to maintain their location going forward.

Hi Tero,

have you checked this guidelines about importing? http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Guidelines(and http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Plan_Outline).

Especially step 4 where it is asked to create an OSM wiki page documenting your plan. There is a nice example made by HSL for importing Swedish street names http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Digitransit/Helsinki_region_Swedish_road_names_import (which follows the Plan_Outline mentioned above). Your github page looks somehow like that but the OSM recommendation is to document to the OSM wiki.

As for the import itself, testing in a small area and reviewing the results before making an import for the whole dataset may be a good way to start. But surely you have planned for that already. A more specific check that comes to mind is to check for already existing POIs that may already contain that information (and not import double POIs).

Hey OSM,
I'd like to propose an import of the Finnish National Registry of social and health care providers.
National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) maintains a registry for all public and private social and health care providers in Finland.
The data is available under the CC BY 4.0 license. THL has given permission to use their data, provided they are listed on the copyright page as a data source.
My intention is to use the service provider information available from the registry (name, address, provider type: social/healthcare), geocode the addresses to coordinates, transform the data to JOSM POI format and import the set to OSM.
