That's a shame the City Tavern is not so good these days. One option
that might be worth considering is the Bull on Price Street
(http://www.thebull-pricestreet.com/) just on the outside of the inner
ring road. I've not been there for a while since I no longer live in
Birmingham (and am unlikely to come to any of the socials as a
result), but its a very nice pub (presuming it hasn't changed
recently) and it seemed to be usually fairly quiet during the week.
There are a number of other good pubs I know of in the city centre
with food but I'm not sure whether they might be too busy and noisy
(particularly from October to December, when city centre pubs often
seem to be busy).
On another pubs/OSM matter, I don't know whether any of you have seen
the Birmingham CAMRA leaflet about pubs in Harborne which uses an OSM
map (with attribution). I have scanned it and put it up here
temporarily: http://www.flickr.com/photos/paularchivist/5105259248/
and http://www.flickr.com/photos/paularchivist/5104665175/. Paper
copies of the leaflet were available (free of charge) at the
Wellington, Bennetts Hill, when I visited there a few weeks ago, and I
expect are available at some other pubs (and probably at the
Birmingham Beer Festival next week 28-30 Oct!).
Cheers
