There's been a tendency to reduce the logic of road numbering and 
classification in recent years. If the A55 has motorway rights, why not 
call it the A55(M)? It's like the idea of the A34 being discontinuous and 
becoming the A3400 halfway up. OK it reduces from a trunk road to an 
ordinary A road but the concept of discontinuous roads still seems a bit 
silly...
