Alex,

Welcome, OSM and pubs are synonymous :-)

The OSM platform works pretty well a lot of the time, but each time we throw
something new into the equation or we get a rash of new interest it tends to
bog down a bit. My recommendation for now would be to confine edits to the
early morning until you get the hang of everything. Also note that by using
JOSM you can download your area of interest and work on that, you only need
to upload the data at the end of your edit session (or as I do it when I
stick the kettle on).
