Hello,

Welcome to OSM.  The server isn't always this slow, but it does fall over
from time to time.  There are a few things that you can do to help.  Nick
Hill is the main sysadmin for OSM.  He usually sorts out problems with the
server pretty quickly - but he has to know about them first.  If the server
is dead or very slow, its best to check the wiki page here:

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Platform_Status

If it needs updating, update it as best you can.  Then check the developers
mailing list to see if anyone else has noticed it.  The lists are high
traffic, so its easy for the sysadmins to miss a message.  If the problem
has been around for a bit and is severe (eg no response/api is down rather
than slow)  it could be worth emailing nick:
