Rereading my post after sending it, it read like I was saying that there

Until Jerry dug up that old email message I hadn't realised that the
problem in Cheadle from way back then was part of the same problem. I'd
have been a bit keener about correcting stuff if I'd twigged.

Agreed. From memory, the road up to Nick'i'the Hill isn't a culdesac.
It looks like there's been an attempt to add in a section of the
Staffordshire Way along the ridge to Mow Cop (but not actually as
highway=anything), and I suspect that that'll need correcting too.
Unfortunately with the evenings drawing in it's out of range for me
except at weekends.
