Ahh, thanks.

I think this is quite a confusing approach. Post code searches often end up
returning the wrong street that is also near the centroid, houses that
don't belong to that post code that happen to be nearby, and also weird
objects like trees and car club parking bays. The OSM search box also first
gives a result from NPEMap / FreeThe Postcode, which is much less useful.

It seems as though nominatim is confusing a few different purposes, whether
by design or accident:
* map users who want to find the location of a post code
* OSM contributors as an encouragement to add more data
* data users searching for objects near a post code
