Why doesn't the French tile server use 'French Style' currently then?

Yes every country should have a local service that provides a preferred
local style and language, and ideally visitors would be directed to that
local support based on language/location. This discussion is on the UK
list and in my defence all I am asking HERE is how we implement that for
the UK. To that end, some of the internationalization of the old style
can be dropped and things improved for UK users.

That the new 'international' style still needs work is a separate
problem, and I've just realised that http://osrm.rdm2.co.uk/ is still
live, but with only two of the original five map layers. I think this
demonstrates my problem with the new style perfectly, but I will get the
french tile layer loading on that so that a switch can be made easily.
Zoom out three or four times and much of the road system is lost against
the 'farmland' block ... apparently the Cotswolds and the vale of
Evesham is not farmland :) But it's a lot more visible with the new style!
