The sport tag is for performing sports. An adage of OSM is 'don't tag 
incorrectly to suit the renderer'

That's a sound point.

By that logic, nothing would /ever/ get updated. We're trying to create 
the most detailed, accurate & *current* map possible.
 From experience I'd say the opposite is true. Amending entities in an 
area attracts the attention of other contributors who spot more 
anomalies & fix them.
