[Talk-GB] Motorhome Stopovers or Aires

Many thanks for the responses.
I will use the tag tourism=caravan_site but probably add another caravan_site=motorhome_stopover to clearly identify what it is.
It is only something I would add to a car park if there was a specific sign allowing this. Given the increased use of motorhomes and staycation it is likely we will see more of these in the UK so it would seem a reasonable and hopefully useful addition to OSM.
I'm not sure about pubs as they don't tend to put signs up specifically for this and generally it is information found on their websites etc or only something you may find out by specifically asking in the pub.
I'm inclined to keep well away from the issue of "wild camping" whether it is for tents or motorhomes/campervans.
Regards
Dudley

I'm in the Highlands now, and I've also spotted a few, but wild camping (with tents) is broadly permitted here*, with roadside van-camping much more common than in England.
Tagging anything that's not signed or otherwise invited by the owner /local authority would start getting tricky, worse than the recent discussions about outdoor swimming spots
* if the land isn't fenced off, part of a scheduled ancient monument (leading to the existence of official wild spots along the Caledonian canal), or subject to restrictions as around Loch Lomond. All of these affect the trip I'm on; there are probably other factors I've missed

+1 for this question.
I saw lots in the Highlands and Islands this summer. Have asked OSM Scotland on info at openstreetmapscotland.org<mailto:info at openstreetmapscotland.org> but no reply as yet.
I saw signs in laybys both explicitly permitting and prohibiting overnight stays by campervans.
(Related, there was one evidently de facto "wild " tent campsite near Portree - though hardly wild in practice, just loo-less)

Hi
Up until the last few years we've not really had many of these in the UK. With the increase in motorhome use in the UK people are now lobbying to get more of these set up in the UK: https://campra.org.uk/
How are people tagging these in the UK? It looks like they should come under tourism=caravan_site according to the wiki entry for this but I cannot see any sub tags within the wiki entry that would distinguish an "Aire" from a more typical caravan site. They could for example just be some "signed" area within a car park. It would seem a bit odd to tag these as tourism=caravan_site but it would seem this is all that is available at present. Perhaps an additional tag of "caravan_site=motorhome_stopover" could be added.
It is also become more common for pubs to allow motorhomes to stop over in their car parks. Should these come under the tag "tourism=caravan_site"?
I tried looking at some "Aires" in France on OSM. The ones I looked at were car parks but none had any additional tags to suggest they allowed a motorhome stopover. It would suggest that "tourism=caravan_site" isn't an accepted method to tag motorhome stopovers. Perhaps it needs to come under "amenity=parking".
It is possible I have missed something given the number of Aires that exist in Europe!!
Any suggestions on how to tag this type of motorhome stopover in the UK would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards
Dudley
