A common (and, to a lesser extent, a village green) isn't a single landuse,
though; I'd expect there to be patches of woodland, heath, grass, meadow
and so on, shifting over the decades. Similarly a village green may be
mostly grass, but there could well also be a playground, sports pitches
(even a cricket green), the odd copse and of course a pond.
So if we want to keep a single object to which to attach the designation
and name of the common / village green, it can't be a "grass" area.
