This is the UK, not the USA; we don't need signed permission to cross or
use roads. Motorways excepted, of course; but this is a perfectly normal
A-road.

The reason is to allow people exiting the continuation of Homerton Row to
turn left onto Homerton High Street or continue straight onto Isabella
Road. Using the pedestrian crossing (which is not indicated for cyclists)
to do this to turn left would be perverse and to use it to go straight on
would be seen as excessively cautious for most pedestrians.

If you feel like improving the area you could map the triangular plaza
between the academy sites, and continue the sidewalk east. But the linking
path would still be necessary as without it cyclists would be told to
dismount for an excessive distance.

If you feel that CycleStreets' router is suggesting dangerous routes,
perhaps you could ask them why that route was chosen? But again, it's a
normal A-road, with a 30mph limit according to the map.
