Thanks Tom and Gez. An alternative view has been posted to Twitter:

   I suspect The Rhydd (residence of the Allen’s) was the house to
   the north of Rhydd Court on an area now occupied by Drakes
   Place. They certainly owned property next to the old ferry
   crossing.
