OK. Sorry if I misunderstood you. It must have been others in this thread that sugested making a gap in the highway recorded in OSM, in order to stop Strava routing over it. My bad.

I haven't suggested falsifying anything. I suggested digging up a short
section of the physical path, at least to the state where it is no
longer visible as one. It need be only a few yards.
Then not mapping a path there is not falsifying any data, it is simply
recording what is on the ground at the time of the survey. Which is the
fundamental purpose of OSM.
I have several times created a footpath by trampling back and forth a
few times along a right of way so that it becomes a visible path. Doing
the opposite if it's not a right of way strikes me as equally valid.
