[Talk-GB] Fixing non-closed polygons in the United Kingdom

This challenge appears to be suggesting ways that should not be closed polygons. Can I ask what your criteria for detecting an unclosed polygon are?
Two examples:-

A waterway=ditch, which per the wiki, should only be an unclosed way.
