I was harsh on that. It was more of a dubious name, especially when looking
at the A40 between the M5 and A417; it just doesn't *"bypass"* Golden
Valley for a lack of a better word. Given the documentation provided by
Dave, I'd suggest that the name could be reapplied to this stretch of the
A40.

Probably a rhetorical question, but no. What Andy said earlier about
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandolini's_law is really starting to feel
true here...

Nonetheless, I think we should perhaps review the junction names of
motorways near us, considering that we're most likely to have the most
knowledge about them. I'll start with the M2, and I'm certain that J7
(Brenley Corner) and J3 (Bluebell Hill) are named properly, since a lot of
the people I talk to refer to it as such. However, the latter junction is
currently named as 'Bluebell' on OSM, but it isn't too much of a big deal.
I'm somewhat certain in J5 being named properly as 'Stockbury', although
the road enthusiast websites previously suggest that this might be named
the Ridgeway, but I have no clue from where this name comes from...
certainly no one I talk to calls it that.
I'm less confident in J6 being namd properly too; sure, the Perry Court
Farm and new development are located nearby, but most people I talk to call
it the Ashford Road turning, but I'm not too sure about either of these
names. I'm fairly convinced that the former may be true here.
I don't really know where the name for J4 (Brooms Wood) comes from other
than *roads.org.uk <http://roads.org.uk>* of course, but I think it's named
after a nearby wood. Even the *SABRE Wiki* disagrees with this and calls it
the Gillingham Interchange instead. I'm more inclined to say the latter,
considering that most people I talk to just say it's the turning off for
Gillingham, but I'm not too sure about this one either.
J2 is just... where does this come from? I've never heard Merrals Shaw be
mentioned outside of these road enthusiast sites and it doesn't make much
sense either. Anyone know where this possibly originates from?
J1 is a bit confusing, as it's been referred to as both the Park Pale
Junction (or interchange) and the Three Crutches Junction (or interchange,
again). I doubt NH would have much reason to change the name of an existing
junction, it just seems unnecessary. Nonetheless, most people I talk to
just refer to it as the turning at Strood.
While I think a lot of this discussion is subjective, what isn't is what NH
really calls these junctions. It'd be nice if they compiled an official
list of junction names across the motorway network!
