It is an amenity to your household.

Although it's not something that I'd give priority, maps are used for 
more than the typical W H Smith's customer uses them for.  They record 
social trends, and one of those (unfortunately in my view) is the 
takeover of front gardens by what are, essentially, car parks.

You are looking at this from the man in the street's way of using maps, 
not from a professional point of view.
