People do die, move away, take up other pastimes.. expecting someone to
maintain something for ever more is unrealistic. Does that mean the map
should be left blank? Or is the attitude of the 'waiting for life on the
current planet to evolve, civilizations to arise, and manufacturers to
provide the lemon-scented napkins ' (Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
to be considered? OSM has HOT contributors who make their contribution
and then most of them leave, HOT maintenance is negligible.
While 'old data' may become outdated is that not better than a blank
page? If someone comes across a change and cares about it then they can
change it .. and possibly OSM gains a new mapper... People care about
roads to a very large degree .. thus roads are kept up to date.
