I have only deleted stuff that was contributed by anton_jakarta with a 
changeset comment of "... from google". If ways created by other people 
used anton_jakarta's nodes then I have removed these nodes from the 
ways, but left the ways in place - that's probably the reason for your 
observation that:

If a way was created by someone else but all its nodes, or all but one 
of its nodes, were created by anton_jakarta, then removing the nodes 
from the way would have created an invalid way, and in these cases I had 
to remove the ways as well.
