[Talk-in] How do I get started?

Folks,

I'm able to use a Garmin GPS to make .gpx files of routes that I'm
on. Is there a set of instructions through which I can get started on
submitting them to openstreetmap? Are there any peculiarities about
India which matter to this?

Does one submit one separate .gpx file for each street or one just
submits one big .gpx file for a full route that one has been on? What
about waypoints?
