Indeed, for a while iD suggested to tag name=Aibė in Latvia :)
But that was a problem with NSI anyway.
My lowkey approach is to fix/add NSI entries when I have some time.
Regarding JOSM, there's a ticket to include NSI by default:
https://josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/15217 .

Correct / agreed upon names - that's something we don't have in Latvia
either, beyond a few old entries in the wiki.
Perhaps a joint list for the Baltic States would make sense, as we do
cross-border mapping (less now, but hopefully travel will resume next year
or so...), and it would be a bit less likely to become abandoned?
