A question worth asking is what purpose does a wikipedia relation serve, that isn’t already handled
by the wikidata relation? In particular, my view is that:

1. End users will ~never interact with either tag directly, if they do inspect the information
within these tags they’ll do so through some sort of a user interface (e.g. osm.org or some other
map);
2. Interfaces should be able to resolve a wikidata reference to a wikipedia article(s) or other
links on the fly and show those to the user directly.

And then, if editors do want to provide a reference to a Wikipedia page, they could add the
reference to the wikidata KB instead, benefitting a broader ecosystem than just OSM? It is more
work for an editor to add this data in the first place, sure. But the end result should be way more
future-proof (AFAIK Wikipedia links aren’t stable), and thus possibly less overall effort in the
long run.

Unless there is a genuine and convincing use-case for wikipedia tags, I would argue that linking to
wikipedia is an antipattern in general. But also I’m just a casual contributor, so my opinion
probably doesn’t count for much.
