[OSM-NI] Donación de dispositivos GPS

Esta también es mi primer post en esta lista. He intención de escribir por
un tiempo pero no he llegado a ella, buena hora actual: Excelente noticia,

Voy a comentar sobre el tema en sí, sino en primer lugar, permítame
presentarme brevemente:
Actualmente estoy viviendo en Haití (desde hace casi tres años) y se
trasladará a Managua en septiembre. He estado muy involucrado con las
actividades de OSM en Haití, incluyendo la respuesta al terremoto y
diferente Equipo OpenStreetMap Humanitaria (HOT) actividades desde
entonces. Actualmente estoy trabajando en un proyecto HOT de 4
meses financiado por USAID en el norte de Haití, donde estamos capacitando
a 60 jóvenes de la localidad a la cartografía de OSM.
He trabajado con diferentes proyectos relacionados con la información
geográfica en Haití y espero estar haciendo eso en Nicaragua, también. Lo
que nunca voy a terminar haciendo allí Tengo muchas ganas de contribuir a
la OSM y participar en la construcción de la comunidad OSM allí. Vamos a
ver qué tiempo va a traer.

Ahora, de vuelta a la rosca:

El Columbus V-900 es un buen registrador de GPS. El único inconveniente de
la misma por lo que se me ocurre es que no tiene una batería
intercambiable. He encontrado las instrucciones sobre cómo cambiar la
batería usted mismo, sino que requiere un poco de soldadura (si no recuerdo
mal). .. Pero es un buen dispositivo con notas de voz, torneado encendido /
apagado automático (con alimentación USB externo, útil para usar como
registradores pasiva en los vehículos), la tarjeta micro SD externa se
asegura de que usted nunca se queda sin memoria para los restos - y el chip
GPS es bueno. Es también el modelo de registrador que HOT ha estado usando
en Haití y en África. Es una buena elección.

En una nota relacionada: Tengo algunas unidades GPS de mano Garmin (eTrex)
y estaremos encantados de ofrecerles a la misma agrupación de GPS. Ellos
son la prueba del tiempo, se alimentan con baterías AA y los más nuevos
pueden mostrar mapa OSM en sus pantallas pequeñas. Tengo alrededor de 4
unidades adicionales que puedo añadir a dispositivos compartidos.

De acuerdo con las imágenes de satélite: Eso sería fantástico! ¿Quieres
conseguir un permiso para usar las imágenes sólo para el rastreo de OSM o
también para usar como capa de fondo para servicios de mapas? OpenStreetMap
Francia ha sido anfitrión de las imágenes de Haití, por lo que cuenta con
un sistema preparado para eso. Puedo preguntarles si podíamos conseguir que
albergan también la imaginería Nicaragua - a menos que quiera / pueda
albergar cómodamente en Nicaragua o en otro lugar. Es decir, a menos que el
proveedor de las imágenes sería el anfitrión y proporcionar acceso a las
imágenes (WMS o TMS).

Espero conocerlos a todos en persona y cartografía en Nicaragua.

Nota: Mi español es actualmente limitado principiante, pero también tengo
ganas de adquirir fluidez en ella.

Hi all,

This is also my first post on this list. I've intended to write for a while
but haven't gotten to it; good time now: Excellent news, Felix! And big
thanks to Wolfgang!

I'll comment on the topic itself but first, let me introduce myself briefly:
I'm currently living in Haiti (since almost three years ago) and will be
moving to Managua in September. I've been closely involved with OSM
activities in Haiti including the earthquake response and different
Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) activities since then. I'm currently
working on a 4 month USAID-funded HOT project in Northern Haiti where we
are training 60 local youth to mapping with OSM.
I've worked with different geo-information related projects in Haiti and
hope to be doing that in Nicaragua, too. What ever I will end up doing
there I am looking forward to contributing to OSM and participating in
building the OSM community there. Let's see what time will bring.

Now, back to the thread:

The Columbus V-900 is a good GPS logger. The only downside of it as far as
I can think is that it doesn't have an interchangeable battery. I've found
instructions on changing the battery yourself but that requires some
soldering (if I recall correctly). .. But it's a good device with voice
notes, automatic turning on/off (with external USB power, handy for using
as passive loggers in vehicles), the external micro SD card makes sure that
you never run out of memory for the traces -- and the GPS chip is good.
It's also the logger model that HOT has been using in Haiti and in Africa.
It's a good choice.

On a related note: I have a few Garmin handheld GPS units (eTrex) and would
be happy to offer them to the same GPS pool. They are weather proof, are
powered with AA batteries and the newer ones can show OSM map on their
small screens. I have about 4 extra units that I can add to the pool.

As per the satellite imagery: That would be just fantastic! Would you get a
permission to use the imagery only for tracing to OSM or also for using as
a background layer for map services? OpenStreetMap France has been hosting
imagery for Haiti and so they have a ready system for that. I can ask them
if we could get them to host also the Nicaragua imagery -- unless you want
to / can conveniently host it in Nicaragua or elsewhere. That is, unless
the imagery provider would host it and provide access to the imagery (WMS
or TMS).

I look forward to meeting you all in person and mapping in Nicaragua.

My Spanish is currently limited beginner but I also look forward to
becoming fluent in it.
