[Talk-nz] Naming roads with "-" in them

Hi everyone,

My name is Tara and I'm a member of Microsoft OSM Editorial Team.
While naming roads in New Zealand we've noticed that there is a different approach to how people map road names containing "-" in the name. Through overpass-turbo query we have found around 483 cases of highways that contain space before and after dash (e.g. Kohatu - Wakefield Highway) and around 455 cases of adding "-" without spaces before or after (e.g. Kohatu-Wakefield Highway).
Government data (https://data.linz.govt.nz/layer/3383 ) and address points mostly contain names with dash without spacing on either end (e.g. Kohatu-Wakefield Highway).
Is there some sort of convention or local guideline when it comes to naming these types of roads in OSM?
We want to make sure that we respect local guidelines and therefore any input would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Tara
