In the Philippines, Nokia phones are extremely popular. I am not sure if most people know that any Nokia GPS phone can be used as a OSM GPS mapper. You just need to (free) download and install Nokia Sportstracker and you can track and export the data in gpx and kml files. I have been using my Nokia N82 for mapping and I always carry the phone with me. You might be able to find a good deal on a 2nd hand N95 that will just do the job. Furthermore, Nokia's Symbian OS is a lot more stable than Pocket PCs.
