As the subject says, I met murlwe last Friday, he returned one of the
gpstogo units (which will be lent to ronny by august).
We had a very interesting conversation I would like to share to the group.
* Expanding the gpstogo program - gps loggers (for example navman) are
now very cheap. You can get a blue-tooth enabled unit for less than
2K PHP. Most phones have a bluetooth. Won't get into the details but
I think you get the idea.
Plutocrat has this rig:

If we can raise some cash let's say 20K PHP, we can buy 20 data
loggers and lend them to more mappers. Jim (from one of his mails)
suggested to make it a "competition". If the mapper can gather X
number of traces with the loaned unit, the mapper can own the gps.
Now the question is, how can we raise the funds?
* OSM-PH mini-conference - murlwe and the rest of the Davao mappers is
very much interested in this. Their ideacamp-davao spurred a lot of
interest for OSM down south. I think the ideacamp format (similar to
unconference/bar-camp event) can be adopted here. He suggested we
need about 6 months lead time to get this rolling. It doesn't have to
be in Manila, btw. If anyone can sponsor the event in any place I
think everyone is OK with that.
* Neuraltech - is developing really cool things around OSM data
(address geocoding, routing, etc.) which is of particular interest to
some of you. I'll leave it to murlwe and smackcode to share them to
us.
