I am fine with adjusting the old imported data. I think I'm nervous
because we're talking about maproulette and I'm not clear on the culture
of instructions and I can easily see random people (vs people here) just
changing things based on MAD without really investigating.
The other thing is that in the original import there were some errors in
the massgis road data in Stow, and I fixed them. So if the massgis data
is still wrong, there's the risk of having the still-wrong data used to
overwrite the fixed data. (In the case I have in mind, I don't think
there are any houses/addresses on the wrong road, which is only 100m
long, around the town common.)

That is a lot, and I agree we need to figure out what's going on. It
could actually be that names in addresses and names in roads do not
really match, in some cases. But that many is not believable.
One thing that I've said repeatedly is that we should be expecting to
import the non-problematic set of addresses, and to expect that some
points are going to fail autaomated matching, and be left for either
later or some hand process. Nobody has told me this is wrong, but I
keep hearing a "fix so we can import 100%" notion.
Do you (and others) think we're headed to only importing points that
pass some automated matching process?

Can you explain how the instructions work, and how maproulette avoids
people just doing a mechanical turk import?

Seconded. I would likke to see what the results are in Stow.
