Hello Massachusetts!
Alan, Yury, and myself have been working hard to address the latest commentaries and ideas that came out of our previous emails regarding importing addresses. We've come up with a solid framework for importing and handling the data, and I wanted to bounce this off the MA talk list for commentary and input before we go further forward with it.
We've identified a dataset which has the greatest granularity of data, done data processing to identify double capitalization problems and correct them, sifted through the data with countless practice imports to determine our current mode of operation -- a multi phased import. Additionally, I had some discussions with some of the folks in the #imports community who verified that our licensing seems to be compatible as written. We've also developed import processes using JOSM and compatible plugins, at least for the lower complexity imports.
What we're proposing is an import with at least three phases, and likely more as we get further into this. The rationale for needing multiple phases is so we can get started with importing the least risky data as soon as possible, while concentrating more time on data that needs closer attention, or processes that we need programming help for later.
Further details about the project, the proposed import schema, source data tags and how they translate to OSM tags, and actual import process can be found at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Catalogue/MassGIS_Addresses
Please be advised that this is a living document -- process instructions are currently being updated and revised as we continue to hone particulars out. Peer feedback appreciated.
We look forward to hearing your feedback. I'm hoping we can make this process smooth and ironed out so we have a rock solid project for imports@ to review.
Regards
Angela
