Thanks for the wikipedia pointer.
Agreed there are thorny issues about numbering odd/even. And if 290 is
renumbered then what happens to 190?
So I guess the answer is:
There are newish MM signs that say 395/290 on 290.
Today, that is 290 and is not 395, so the signs are wrong, in a way
that doesn't really hurt.
MassDOT is heading to renumber to 395 if MM are received ok (nobody
but a few like us cares!) and exit numbers are received ok (nobody has
any real choice and it's easier to get used to it than fight the
feds), so I guess conditions are met but I wouldn't be surprised if
they don't actually do it.
If they renumber then the MM signs will still be wrong as it won't be
290 any more.
This will have saved replacing MM signs, at the cost of having them be
confusing before and after.
Does that sound right?
