ref= is the standard tag for things that are numbered instead of named.
If the trail junctions are labeled like "Richard Nixon Junction", then
name= is appropriate.   If  it's a sign that just says 5 or Junction 5,
then ref=5 is appropriate.

ref= is also what is used on numbered highways.
