There is a TON of GIS data US, State, and County agencies have. Many I
believe have policies that it is public domain. The data tends to be much
more detailed than the Tiger data, and include a lot more layers of data.
We should maintain a wiki page more like the user
pages<http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Category:Users_in_the_United_States>with
the above 3 categories (city too?) with agencies that publish GIS
data,
a download location, and the status of the data usability.
Perhaps a template e-mail for asking about the status of the data as well?
I updated Potential Datasources wiki
page<http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Potential_Datasources>with
some more links to data to be investigated.
FL DOT
some FL counties as well. All FL as yet unverified as usable IE. public
Domain
NC DOT
The metadata as well as the following response about NC DOT data seem enough
verification that we can use it:

*Subject:* Data download
I am looking for mapping data sources for use in
http://www.openstreetmap.org Because the result is licensed under Creative
Commons - Share Alike <http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/>any
data added needs to be public domain, licensed with a compatible license, or
specific license granted for it's use as such. I did not find any mention
of the data copyright or if it was in the public domain on your
site<http://www.nconemap.com/Default.aspx?tabid=286>and I wanted to be
perfectly clear prior to trying to making use of it. For
each download I did find the section in the FAQ/metadata titled "*Are there
legal restrictions on access or use of the data?" *Is that the extent of the
legal restrictions?
Is the data listed on http://www.nconemap.com/Default.aspx?tabid=286 in the
public domain, and freely usable, modifiable, and distributable?
Thank you.
