I'm no expert, but what I can see is that mapnik renders it right and
osmrender is wrong. Opening small sections of that area in josm (shading
areas) also seems to show it wrong until you download the rest of the ways
that make up the riverbank.
My guess is a missing relations for the riverbanks. Osmrender and josm
treat them as open water shorelines. Josm realizes what is the deal when
you have more data. Mapnik seems to deal with it seemlessly.
