It's both costly (monitarily) but also, I've found video conferences
work a lot better. You get a lot of information about someone from
their face, and non-verbal cues help drive the conversation.

I think that the option to allow outsiders to participate using the
phone is a reasonable alternative, as they can be spared the use of
the proprietary technology.

As you said you aren't going to be able to make it next time, I don't
think this will be a problem. If someone attending has an issue with
Google+ and or the telephone, then we'll have to figure out what to
do, but I'd like to stay focused on keeping things moving forward.
