Kathleen,

Are you aware of http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User_group ?

I think the most interesting part is the User Groups wiki template,
which if used on a wiki page (example:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Salt_Lake_City,_Utah ) makes your
local UG appear on this here map:
http://usergroups.openstreetmap.de/?zoom=5&lat=39.23225&lon=-94.76806&layers=B0TTT

Also, a lot of US local groups are on meetup:
http://www.meetup.com/find/?keywords=openstreetmap&radius=Infinity but
I'm sure you're aware of that because GeoDC is on there as well ;)
