 It's rather more than slang.  All the signs, even here in NY, refer to it
as 'Mass Pike'. I-90 and the Berkshire Spur of the Thruway both announce
their connection to the Mass Pike as far back from the state line as
Albany. I think I'd relegate 'Massachusetts Turnpike' to `official_name`
because I can't recall seeing a highway sign with the name spelt out in a
couple of decades.
