If the vast majority of real world signs say Mass Pike*, that is a pretty
strong point in favor of tagging:

name="Mass Pike"
official_name="Massachusetts Turnpike"

Though perhaps a less accurate reflection of real world usage, this option
also seems reasonable:

short_name="Mass Pike"
name="Massachusetts Turnpike"

Ideally things should be structured so data consumers preferring shorter
names can easily display "Mass Pike" and data consumers preferring full,
official names can easily display "Massachusetts Turnpike".  I think either
of the options above should allow for that.

*A google image search reveals that Masspike is also common on signs. I
guess MassDOT can't even spare the space for a space 😏
