WAAS and EGNOS are methods of improving GPS accuracy by providing
extra sources of data about atmospheric interference (since they are
geostationary, or something) which can be subtracted from the GPS
data to remove one source of noise.
you can allegedly get 1-2 m accuracy using WAAS/EGNOS (WAAS covers the
USA, EGNOS covers Europe). see more here:

it may take several minutes to lock onto enough satellites to get your
position. you may find you get better results at different times of
day, especially in an urban multi-bounce environment.
with me it generally takes about 3 minutes to lock if i'm outside,
longer if i'm dangling it out of my window ;-)
