This one is more tricky. On the one hand we want the applet to be as
simple as possible, on the other hand people want lots of functionality.
Maybe this is better as a JOSM feature?

5k or 50k points is the limit. Something like that. Simply because much
more takes far too long to render and ship to the browser.

I can up the limit. Again, this is a balance between different use
cases. How do the guys in Birmingham feel about it?

Sure, you'll be able to do this with polys

Yes, but they're wrapped up in core.jar which is nabbed directly from
processing. Tom knows more.
