Thought it might be helpful if I posted some general information about the 
Isle of Wight.
Also I don't want to seem too picky, put it is spelt  "Wight" not "White".

The total area of 146 sq. miles has 532 miles of roads, 514 miles of 
footpaths and bridleways, and 57 miles of coastline. Taken from the Councils

Whilst 532 miles of road might not sound much, it should be pointed out 
other than about 2 miles all of this is single carriage ways, and probably 
over half has a speed limit of  40mph or under.  It terms of how long I 
think you should be looking for to collect the GPS data then it would 
obviously depend on how many people were involved, but I would think a 
weekend would be too short.
