I've successfully managed to add four nodes in the Oslo area with osm-editor:
ID 279450 name oslotest1 type suburb
ID 279451 name oslotest2 type suburb
ID 279452 name middle of the lake type waypoint
ID 279453 name oslotest3 type railway station

 so maybe the problem was at the OSM server end?

Maybe try again now, making sure you completely rebuild the source (i.e. 
delete any object files hanging around?)
