CROWN COPYRIGHT which applies to any government related documents is 50
years from date of publication, rather than 70 years from the death of
the author. Copyright of maps other than crown copyright is taken from
the publication date rather than the death of the author, since in most
cases there are several authors, but maps drawn and contained in books
the longer time frame applies. The maps in Lord of the Rings go with the
copyright of the book rather than from the publication date for example.

I have a large set of 1/2" and 1/4" maps that are also in the process of
being scanned and will be made available. These are Bartholomew pre 1935
and OS pre 1955. I've built a camera table to photograph them rather
than relying on a scanner, but pressure of work is slowing things down :(
