Yes, I have the following files:
1) a data file with all the original data, before deletion
2) a "mini" file with the deleted items ("action='delete'")
3) a file saved after cancelling the upload
"2" contains 9588 lines containing "action='delete'"
"3" contains only 6013 lines, so I guess I deleted 3575 :-(
I wondered about loading the original "1" into josm, then downloading the
affected areas, and then merging the conflicts correctly, and uploading. Maybe
that is the easiest way to fix this?
Annoyingly, I usually read the "confirm these changes" window to check what it's
going to do. Of course, this time I was in "automatic" mode having made lots of
very small changes! :-(
