If anyone is going there speak to South american explorers club
http://www.samexplo.org/ and bring some GPS:es. They might be
interested in making maps of the turist areas. People running internet
cafés are usually geeks or take advantage of geeks, they are a good
starting place for help..

I'm sure you  (Jörg) could map South America quite effectively with
your long time loggers,  You just go to a buss station find ten german
backpackers give them one gps logger each..... If the loggers had
better battery, it would be easier. You would need atleast 72h of
battery, since there aren't alawys cigarette lighters available in the
busses.

Sure you would only get the Gringo trails but that's quite alot. And
you can rent a Taxi for $25-$100 per day (I never payed more than
$50), so that would get you quite alot of the centralarea of a city...
