Personally I think it unrealistic to expect Steve to plan around one persons 
demo of OSM.

I think we all have to realise the time constraints upon Steve and the fact 
that the OSM project is still very much in its infancy.

I'm not just writing off the top of my head, but as someone who will be 
giving a demo of OSM tomorrow night, I've not asked anyone for the server to 
be available, and have planned contingencies in case it isn't.

I have for instance compiled my own video (along the lines of Imi's 
introduction to the applet) which will allow me to demonstrate the features 
on the applet, and I have a whole load of downloaded data on my hard disk 
which will allow me to demonstrate JOSM.

Yes it would be nice if the server is available for me during my 
demonstration tomorrow night, but if its not then it won't be a problem.

I'd much rather enhancements were made as soon as possible, rather than wait 
until no one needs to use the server.
