But you can already do this by looking at public traces on the
website. If I currently go there, I get a heap of entries like

I'd bet I could get directory enquiries to narrow that one down very quickly.

Personally, I'd assumed that the 'creative commons' part applied to my
logs as well; I don't know why we couldn't have a checkbox on a user
preferences panel, that a user could set if they didn't want to make
their traces visible in that way. Make it opt-in for everything
existing in the database, and opt-out for newly-registering users.

Would that not solve the problem ?
