Having usernames that are separate from the email address would be a good 
start - user "xyz" on wikipedia can choose whether to publish their name and 
email address or not, while user "realname at company.com" on openstreetmap 
doesn't really get that same choice.

e.g. I notice my email address is published on the statistics page, even 
though I have a "display name".

As in wikipedia, people who remain pseudononymous get only the default x years 
copyright on stuff they add, compared to named contributors who get life + y 
years.  And as on wikipedia, we can't delete usernames otherwise the 
attribution info is lost.
