[OSM-talk] Now 5 users in Östergötland

If you look at a map of Sweden, you will notice two lakes next to
each other that are bigger than the rest. The one to the right is
Vättern, Europe's 5th largest, a very slim shape pointing north
and south. If you draw lines to the Baltic coast from its ends,
you enclose a roughly square area that is the province of
Östergötland, just a little south of Stockholm.

Östergötland has 412,000 inhabitants and on the OSM wiki the
[[Category:Users in Östergötland]] now has 5 members. Most
recently, JLS (Jonas Svensson) has joined today.

This is one OpenStreetMap contributor for every 82,400
inhabitants, actually the same as Bedford (Ojw). As a comparison,
if London (with 14 million ppl in the greater metro area) were to
reach the same attendance as Bedford and Östergötland, we would
see 170 members in the [[category:Users in London]] but there are
only 8. On the other hand, Bedfordshire would have 7 contributors
which is Ojw + 6 new ones.

As another and less optimistic comparison, it has taken me a full
year to pull four neighbors into OSM. It took me less than a week
to pull that many people into Wikipedia in the spring of 2001.
And the difference is not that I have become less charismatic,
it's simply a lot harder to make people make maps.
