Well...
I have seen it take a good 5-10 minutes just for a few square miles.
Admittedly it hasn't done it today but certainly was on Friday.

I assume this problem will go away once things have been optimised.

What sort of spec machine are you looking for?

Would you prefer one under your control or can people host "mirrors" on 
their own servers?
